Mmmkay. I was not planning to do an Easter post. But, since this was Ryan’s first Easter and a few memorable things occurred, I guess I’ll record it for posterity.
One: The earliest Easter we’ll ever see in our lifetimes.
Two: When I woke up it truly looked like Christmas morning and not Easter morning.
Three: We went to church. It was my parents, FatJParents, FatJ, Ryan, and I. Ryan was in a very good mood. He began giggling and shrieking as we were walking into church and he saw snowflakes falling from trees. The giggling subsided, but the shrieking continued. All the way through the entire mass. And when I say shrieking, I mean ear-piercing, cover-your-ears squealy shrieks. And this not only drew attention from those sitting around us, it also earned us not one, BUT TWO shout-outs from the priest (in front of the whole congregation, nonetheless). Yes, Ryan was famous. Famous as the shrieking baby from the 9:00am Easter mass. Frankly, this could really make the news because Amelia was in attendance at the same mass.
Four: I made my first holiday ham. Which really is not monumental as all it requires is placing the ham into a pan and putting it in the oven for 2 hours. The ham was delish though. And for $44, it should be.
And now, a few images from the day…
Instead of an Easter basket, Ryan got a big pail and shovel that contained some other summery toys and some summer clothes (from GrandparentsB). From GrandparentsJ Ryan got a realistic-looking rabbit (which I have failed to take a picture of) and a complete library of Easter books.
And then here he is investigating the “grown-up” Easter basket…he liked the grass.
Some eggs, beautifully dyed by my mother…
And, a FatJ family portrait…a prime example of how and why I only have 3-4 nice pictures of Ryan and I (note chopped off head, blur, and child not looking at camera)…
And finally, Ryan playing on his newly put together Go ‘N Grow rider. Ryan got this as a shower gift when he was 6 weeks old. He’s finally ready to use it! I think he might be ready for a hog as well. [No, Ryan. Mama will not let you ride motorcycles.]
Hoppy e-day. May the snow melt soon.

max HATED the easter basket grass.
we just got out our go ‘n grow too! when you guys come up this summer you’ll have to bring it along and the boys can hit the road together. ;)
glad you had a good easter! and congrats on the ham!
Love it.
Any ham leftover? Maybe I could swap you for some paella. …
You’re being a bit too hard on yourself, Anne! Ryan was a pretty good boy in church yesterday. Just a bit more vocal than the other kids in attendance. I think he was enjoying a combination of joining the adults in singing, listening for the echo of his voice reverberating off the walls in that big room, and hearing a bit of kid chatter in response to his own vocalizations. He enjoyed himself and had a good time doing it! Mom and Dad may have been a bit embarrased by it all, but thats just the way kids are and it happens all the time.
Although a bit loud, I don’t think Ryan’s voice was anything like the shrieking you described. I have seen and heard many kids crying, throwing tantrums, or just exhibiting their bad moods. I classify those voices as shrieks and find them very annoying. The types of shouts Ryan was making don’t bother me at all. The comments Fr Dale made after a couple of Ryan’s better efforts were pretty normal for Dale. He jokes and makes side comments like that often. Dale was also very aware of the identity of the child making all the hub-bub.
love your new header. and cute family pic. :)
cute shots – i like the family shot too – i can relate to the heads being cut off and the child not looking! congrats on the ham – i’ve never attempted making a ‘big’ dinner at my house. eeek! glad it was a good easter – shrieking and all!
Anne,
I just spoke with Frank (as in Amelia’s better half) about Easter.
The WCCO power couple did in fact notice your boy’s shrieks. However, no one called into the newsroom to get this information on TV.
