These two crazy boys of mine. Tonight we had the most marvelous last-minute outing to Walgreens (of the ghetto variety) to purchase Valentines. The whole experience kind of left me…speechless.
They’ve been gearing up for Valentine’s Day. Sam’s been telling us that he’s having a ‘publishing party’ and they are supposed to wear red shirts and there will be treats. Ry still doesn’t really understand how the whole classroom exchange will work, but appears in awe of the fact that everyone will bring a card for everyone else. After they efficiently put on their winter garb and cheerfully got into the car (WITHOUT dawdling!) Ry said that he needed to pick out a princess valentine pack for the girls, and probably a spiderman one for the boys. Because the girls aren’t going to like the spiderman ones, mommy:) [Be. Still. My. Heart. Ryan! You are thinking of what other people might like!!!]
Anyway, so we roll into Walgreens and Sam is all confused thinking that Walgreens IS his ‘publishing’ party (will there be chairs, mommy?), and then we walk into the red and pink explosion that is the Valentine aisle and oh my word. They LOVED every single thing they saw. Ryan saw Cars 2 valentines and immediately chose those, along with the princess valentines for the girls. Sam chose the cutest puppy/kitty valentines, complete with tattoos. They inventoried every type of candy, and could not contain their excitement when I let them choose one box of conversation hearts each.
Then the TOY AISLE! Then the GUM/CANDY display by the check-outs! Jeesh, you’d think I never brought these children anywhere. They waited in line so patiently, and then actually listened and didn’t open their boxes of candy until they got home. At which time the hearts were immediately dumped onto the table and eaten, tattoos were applied, and Ryan finished off three whole valentines before bed.
and Sam pretend-mixered his hand

Glad to hear that you had a fun time. I wonder if I will get a valentine?
Wes routinely tells people that Walgreens is his favorite store. He’s been there a handful of times when we’ve had to pick up Rxs and he can’t get enough of it. It’s so strange because I’m trying to get out of there as fast as I can.
